#37-Still dealing with Operation Overlord.

First addressed in #35. Remember the bamboo fence in this pic.

I will try to get us to the end of the upper beach slope sloughing issue that is weighing on me. As previously noted, the shoreline is experiencing erosion from pounding waves from a couple of recent large typhoons and the upper area was having run-off problems due to not properly dealing with the large roof area rain run-off. I’ve controlled the roof run-off problem and am adding one more “top of slope” structure to direct non-roof run-off as well as increase and improve the accessibility of the problem area.

I added a 4' knee wall to bring up the elevation to the nara tree. This will direct non-roof run-off to that basin and level the terrain for more viewing.

Work area for the guys bending rebar, mixing concrete and -for breaks-a bed. We will see how the added knee wall and diverted run-off will help the upper washout condition. Now we need to look at the coastal area.

Increased random storm intensity along with higher tides has caused the shoreline to be slightly more impacted and I might as well try a few remedies.

A little property history before continuing. In 1988, a large buried waterline that transported water from a geothermal plant in the mountains to a smeltering plant ruptured on our property resulting in the washout of the road. A new road was moved and installed on another piece of the property. Years later we busted up the road and made room for the new house. When we wanted to address the erosion issue we decided to push the concrete rubble over the slope and use it for riprap. That is where we are now. From the picture above you and see the rubble and the existing boulders that we will use to build a riprap wall. We will start that soon and future blogs will show how that is going. Note the bamboo fence at the top of the slope. It is the same one shown where the knee wall was being constructed.
