Blog 31: Redirecting my lack of direction
We have nearly caught up with the train (make that a boat, a train at least is on some tracks going somewhere) and now I have to figure out what to do next. Let’s recap the last three weeks.
Windows were installed throughout the house while we wait for the tempered glass for the back patio door. We noticed the transom portion of the window has a less visual impact than we thought. Our plan is to accent the portion above transom with brick and maybe some inserts. Also, we will be installing some type of decorative security rebar. I want to add shutters to protect the windows during the typhoon season but will wait to make sure it is not too busy looking.
To keep the project moving during Covid we decided to begin the exterior wall skim coat finish. This is a finish that will utilize a 1:1 sand/cement mix (sand screened with #8 mesh). The mason will take extra care to eliminate any scruffing or scratching and allow for a consistent pattern.
The next few weeks should see the arrival and installation of the spandrel (soffits). We have contacted the people who installed our roof to do this work.
Now-Direction.
When I returned to the US it was in the hopes that I could return for a short three week visit to spell out the tasks and direction that the crew should take. I could have ordered and secured materials, give the crew tasks that would advance the project with efficiency and productivity and contact subcontractors for upcoming scheduling. That is not going to happen with any confidence. Hence, lack of direction.
More next week on involving you guys in future designing and planning — from a distance.
